MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND TRADE OF HUNGARY VISITS MALDIVES FOR THE FIRST TIME


His Excellency Péter Szijártó, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, to Maldives, visits Maldives, on 9 November 2022. This is not only His Excellency Péter’s first visit to Maldives, it is also the first visit by Hungary to Maldives in the history of bilateral relations between both countries.
During his short visit, several important agreements were signed between both countries, including an Agreement on Economic Cooperation between both countries, an Agreement to increase the scholarships under the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarships from 15 students annual to 25 and a Memorandum of Understanding in Sports Diplomacy. Furthermore, His Excellency handed over the donation of medical equipment (X-ray machines) to the Maldives by the Government of Hungary.
His Excellency also announced the promotion of the Honorary Consul of Hungary in Maldives, Mr. Mohamed Ali Janah, to Honorary Consul-General of Hungary in Maldives.
Another important announcement was made regarding Hungary visa process in Maldives where applicants are now able to lodge their visa applications via VFS Centre in Maldives. Applicants were earlier required to visit the nearest Embassy of Hungary.
An official function was held in Kurumba Maldives on 9th November 2022 to celebrate his visit and Mr. Janah’s designation officiation. The event was concluded with a media interview of His Excellency Péter Szijártó by PSM Media.
